Archaeology Beach: Llano de los Militares in Gran Canaria

The south Gran Canaria beach where you're most likely to find a Canarii relic: Llano de los Militares, just east of El Pajar and Arguineguín, has its own archaeological ruin.

Llano de los Militares beach is made of large, rounded pebbles although it does have some find sand at low tide. It's about 300 metres long and the water is clear and calm. Take a snorkel and explore the rocks offshore.

This is one of the emptiest beaches in south Gran Canaria so a good place for shy nudists.

Llano's Canarii settlement, really just a series of low walls and hearth pits, is fenced off right by the beach. Have a look along the shore as there's always the chance of finding a sherd of pottery or a Canarii bead.

Get to Llano de los Militares by driving along the GC 500 until you see the sign just east of El Pajar. Turn off the road and down the track and you can park right by the beach and the little ruin. From Llano, walk east at low tide and you come to Triana beach just round the headland.

There are no facilities.

This beach is also known as Playa del Las Pimientas, Santa Agueda or El Llanillo.
