Faneroque Beach: Gran Canaria's Least Visited Beach

Faneroque on the west coast is Gran Canaria's least visited beach Faneroque on the west coast is Gran Canaria's least visited beach

Faneroque beach makes the more famous GüiGüi beach feel like Puerto Rico on a busy Sunday afternoon. If you make it, and few do, you'll have it all to yourself except for the rusty bulldozer.

Faneroque beach is right at the foot of the huge Faneque cliff that dominates the west coast of Gran Canaria. It's the blackest and most pristine beach in Gran Canaria because it's a couple of hours walk from the west coast road and then a good scramble along the base of the cliffs to the sand. Faneroque only gets a handful of visitors a month and most are fishermen.

It wasn't always like this: Back in the 1970s you could drive all the way down to the sand with a 4WD and a local builder used to collect the sand to make cement. One winter the road collapsed, leaving the builder's bulldozer trapped. It's still there.

If you visit Faneroque beach send us a photo and we'll be impressed. If the west coast road disappears (as it may when the inland alternative is finished) it'll be completely inaccessible except by boat.

There are no facilities at Faneroque and the waves can be fierce. It doesn't matter if you go nude since there's nobody else to know about it.
