Playa del Cura Beach: Another South Gran Canaria Spot That Flies Under The Radar

Sandy Playa del Cura beach is where the people who work in south Gran Canaria, local and guiri, go at the weekends.

Set in little Playa del Cura resort, this beach has loungers and is easy to get to but is rarely crowded as the sand is natural but a little too dark for tourist tastes. It does lack a beachfront bar as the area directly behind the sand is within hotel gardens.

What Playa del Cura does lack is a beachfront bar as the area directly behind the sand is within hotel gardens. However, there is a Spar supermarket and bars by the roundabout just back from the beach

Choose the central section of the beach for the best sand and for the easiest access to the water. Both ends are rockier.

The odd concrete tower at the east end of the beach is a lift that gets hotel guests over the road (we don't know what they were thinking either).

Get to Playa del Cura beach by bus from Puerto de Mogán and Puerto Rico. If you feel like a walk you can get to this beach by walking along the coast from Puerto Rico. First take the clifftop path to Amadores, then continue along the breakwater (round the back of the Beach Club) to Tauro beach. The path to Tauro is a track but it's safe and easy to walk. Once at Tauro walk along the shore until you can see Playa del Cura resort and beach. Provided the sea is calm, it's easy to get to the sand.
