Gran Canaria's superstar sisters win their 25th World Championship
The Moreno twins Iballa and Daida Ruano are Gran Canaria's most successful sporting stars and this week Iballa took the PWA World Wave Championship title with victory in the Maui Aloha Classic. Daida was runner-up.
Between them, the Moreno twins have now won 25 Windsurfing World Championships. Just WOW!
Gran Canaria waterpark project back on track
One of the obstacles holding up the Gran Canaria Siam Park waterpark was that the proposed route for the island train ran through the site. The route has now been changed and building work is on track to start next year. The 10 million euro park is expected to create 300 permanent jobs.
Tourism figures shine
More positive news for the Gran Canaria and Canary Islands tourist industry (and only a bit to do with the fact that everybody needed something positive to say at the World Travel Fair in London). Gran Canaria airport broke records with 935.818 passengers in October, a 7,7% rise on last year.
