March 2016: Tauro beach has been flattened by heavy machinery laying the foundations for its new, Caribbean sand replacement.

The beach is now fenced off and diggers have changed it beyond recognition by scraping off all the pebbles, levelling it, then piling it high with earth extracted from behind the beach.

The strategy seems to be to remove the pebbles and let the sea wash away the earth to leave a base of natural sand. Anfi / Santana Cazorla will then cover the whole beach with imported sand brought in by barge.

There is no plan to build a protective wall to shelter the sand at this stage. Without one, Tauro regulars expect the first big swell to take all the sand out to sea.

Life at the Vistamar beachfront restaurant goes on as it has for years despite the fence and the digging work. There's no sign that this is to change as the current project only covers making the beach.

If the pace of work goes on, expect to see white sand within weeks unless the ecologists get the work stopped again.

A Save Tauro platform is growing, but it looks like they are too late to stop this phase of the work.

What will happen to the beach bars? You'll just have to wait and see ;-)
