The Maspalomas lighthouse building is due to open as a cultural museum and handicrafts centre but work is on hold due to termites.

The old wooden beams in the lighthouse building are infested and a row over who pays to get rid of them has stopped rennovation work in its tracks.

The company (Grupo San José) with the €950,000 work contract refuses to pay to get rid of the pests and the government is threatening to scrap it and put it out to tender again.

In the meantime, the termites munch away and the museum / handicrafts centre, announced in 2013, isnt open.

No word yet on the plans to let visitors climb the tower and look at the beach from the top.
